About us

Who We Are

Fruitleather Rotterdam is a Dutch innovation studio founded in 2016 by Koen Meerkerk and Hugo de Boon.

What began as a graduation project at the Willem de Kooning Art
Academy has evolved into a pioneering venture that transforms discarded mango waste into a durable, leather-like material designed to meet the demands of modern industries.

With nearly a decade of hands-on experience, Fruitleather has earned international recognition for its leadership in the fast-growing plant-based materials market. As global brands seek sustainable alternatives and new ways to reduce their environmental footprint, our work has captured the attention of major companies around the world.

Now, we’re going beyond material development. We’re opening up our proven technology and mindset to partners across industries and empowering others to turn agricultural
waste into meaningful, scalable products. For forward-thinking companies and communities, Fruitleather offers not just a solution to waste, but a gateway to innovation.

Our Vision

At Fruitleather, we see food waste not as a burden—but as untapped potential. We transform discarded fruit into high-performance, leather-like materials that are as functional as they are sustainable.

Rooted in a thriving network of sustainability pioneers, we’re part of a growing movement redefining waste through innovation and design.

Our mission is simple but powerful: to show how organic waste can become scalable, beautiful, and commercially viable materials. For brands ready to innovate with purpose, Fruitleather offers not just a material, but a mindset.
